Natural timber also contains characteristics not found in man made materials such as surface splits, shakes etc and surface filling is sometimes necessary. Wood is a hygroscopic material. Changes in humidity will cause natural expansion and contraction. Small gaps may occur. The wider the timber the more movement that can be expected. We only give as a guide a waste factor. If more is required then this will have to be purchased.
